• Who is eligible for a Rail Pass

  1. If you a foreign tourist visiting Japan from abroad for a sight-seeing under the entry status of "TEMPORARY VISITOR"*,
    You can purchase any kind of Japan Passes.

    *"Temporary Visitor" entry status, according to Japanese Immigration Law, allows a stay in Japan of up to 90 days for sight-seeing purpose, This status will be shown on your passport.
  2. If you a Japanese national* living in a foreign country,
    a.who is qualified to live permanently in that country, or
    b.who is married to a non-Japanese residing in a country other than Japan.

    *Japanese Nationals can purchase only Japan Rail Pass. Regional passes,such as JR West Pass or JR Kyushu Pass are not available for Japanese Nationals.

• How to Obtain a Rail Pass ?

A Japan Rail Pass Exchange Order MUST be purchased prior to your arrival in Japan.
In Japan, present your Exchange Order at any applicable Japan Rail Pass exchange office to receive your Rail Pass.

*An Exchange Order is valid for three months from the date of issue.

• How to reserve seats ?

Shinkansen (Bullet trains) and most Limited Express and Ordinary Express trains have reserved Green Car seats (First class) and both reserved and non-reserved Ordinary Car seats (Standard class).
For a non reserved seat, simply show your Japan Rail Pass to board.
To make a seat reservation, visit any Travel Service Centre or reserved-seat ticket office called "Midori-no-madoguchi" at a Japan Railways station in Japan.

*SEAT RESERVATIONS CANNOT BE MADE FROM OUTSIDE JAPAN.
